A blind woman on Saturday was allegedly raped by one Pabitra Roy in Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district of Assam.
The incident has sent shockwaves in the area with people coming out in unison demanding stringent punishment for the accused.
The accused was arrested by the police and he has been lodged in lock-up and the police is further interrogating him.
The victim has been shifted to a hospital and she is presently undergoing medical treatment.
“We demand strict punishment for the accused. He should be jailed for life,” said a local.
“It is shameful. When we are battling hard against COVID-19, it is sad to see that some people are taking advantage of someone else’s disabilities to satiate their sexual urge. Such people are a shame for the entire society,” the local added.
