Bongaigaon Police Recovered Huge Amount Money in connection to SI Exam Scam

BONGAIGAON: Sensation prevailed in Bongaigaon district after a huge amount of cash was recovered from different places. In the first case, a team of police raided the house of Rupam Das in the Dolaigaon area of Bongaigaon. He is a Senior Section Engineer /Loco/Fuel of Indian Railways at New Bongaigaon Railway junction. 

Then on basis of his confession, raid was conducted at his father-in-law Tarani Banikya's house at Borigan near Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district and cash amounting to more than Rs 3 crore was recovered. Rupam Das was arrested and raids in his house and his father-in-law's house was still going on till the filing of this report. 

Police conducted second raid in the railway quarter of Pradip Mazumdar, Office Superintendent of Senior Section Engineer /LOCO/Fuel under first accused Rupam Das. Cash Rs 15,46,500 was recovered from Pradip Mazumdar's railway quarter in New Colony of Bongaigaon (quarter no. 204-A) Police have not disclosed in which case these raids were conducted or what was the source of this huge amount of money. 

According to a source, the money was accumulated by black marketeering of diesel as Rupam Das was the in-charge of fuel section of New Bongaigaon. Rupam Das is a childhood friend of Rubul Hazarika, one of the main accused in the recruitment scam who was arrested from Nalbari on Friday. He was associated with Akshay Telecommunication of Bongaigaon, the company which got the sub-contract to conduct the written exam.
