Aaranyak and Assam State Legal Services Authority (ASLSA) jointly conducted a sensitization workshop on wildlife crimes at Bongaigaon


Bongaigaon, 14 May; The workshop was overwhelmingly participated by over 40 participants primarily judicial officers of Barpeta, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Tamulpur and Chirang districts of Assam besides officials from Assam Police, Assam Forest Department, and Sashastra Seema Bol (SSB).

Delivering the key-note address chief guest of the workshop, Hon'ble Mr. Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice (Acting), Guwahati High Court stated, 'Prevention of wildlife crimes requires multifaceted efforts'. While Guest of Honour, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Soumitra Saikia of Guwahati High Court highlighted some key provisions listed in the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Dr Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Secretary General and CEO of Aaranyak discussed the unwarranted links among wildlife crimes, narco-terrorism and arms smuggling which has posed grave threat to the national security and stressed on the need for synergy among various enforcement agencies, forest, police, security forces and judiciary in combating this global menace.
